    Finger Question

Dana Miller-Mackie used an index finger grip on tour for a while. What are your current pitches - incorrect side pitches will cause joint problems.

    Clown Balls?

I had a clown ball once - at least, I assume it was a clown ball because it rolled funny... Contact Denver Sporting in SA, they have as low as 5lb. They are wholesalers, but let them know what you want them for and they will probably help you out. (hopefully).

Sean Rash - coming to Australia

For the sake of the sport hopefully we can keep the wisecrackles down to the minimum.

    Static ball weight and layout.

IIRC, the hole has to be capable of being used as a gripping hole to qualify as a thumbhole, as well as be covered by the hand during the swing. If it is claimed to be a thumbhole, a tournament director would be well within his duties if he asked the bowler to bowl a ball with the thumb in. If...

“Which bowler do you least like to watch?”

I actually like to watch unusual styles, more to see what they do right that enables them to repeat shots. Ron Williams and Joe Hutchinson are probably the two most unusual as far as PBA bowlers go.

    Rule Help

The pros will throw it however and from wherever they need to to optimise their entry angle.

    Rule Help

Ride as far as you want and walk from one end of the centre to the other, it is still a legal ball. There is no penalty for breaches of bowling etiquette other than the stigma of being labelled a jerk, and possible carpark repercussions. IOW, being an a$$ is legal, but why would you want to?

Buying a new ball as a present - Need guidance

Hi Darran, If you know where he bowls, I would go to the centre when he is not there and have a chat to the pro shop guy there. You might be better off with a pro shop voucher, as there are many, many balls on the market, and most people have a preference for particular brands.

    Buying Direct from the USA

Frank, I am surethat if you went to a reputable pro shop and explained that you want 5 plastic conventional balls drilled for your family, you would not be paying the same price for drilling as the person who wants a specific pin and top weight ball drilled for a specific reaction. You would...

    Buying Direct from the USA

Roysa, if the $ drops back to US90c to price we pay for our stock goes up, so the retail price goes up with it. No matter what the exchange rate, there will be a similar disparity between aus retail prices and US online prices.

Interesting comment at league last night

Why is it an 'unfair' advantage? Isn't everyone allowed to do it? It is an 'advantage' only if the bowler is skilfull enough to repeat shots successfully. I see this as being more along the lines of changing from a reactive hook ball to a straight delivery and a hard case ball for spares than...

    Chris Mesagno in BTM

Just got this months Bowling this Month from the States, and the 'bowling down under' article is a very nice piece on the mental game by Chris Mesagno. Congrats Chris!

    AUSTRALIAN OPEN scores

Wayne, Ian (to the best of my knowledge) does do the scores as a volunteer. Receiving expenses back means he does do the job for nothing, rather than at a financial cost to himself. Do you have a different definition of a volunteer other than one who provides his services for no pay?

    2011 Switch Open - Innisfail

Bit hard to sledge someone who just shot 300/800 - mind you, everyone watching thought he threw the 11th on the wrong lane, it was that wide.... Time to put a little more oil on the lanes, methinks. :)

    Steve "Tubby" Hunt 300/800

Congrats to Steve Hunt who shot a very fine 259/245/300 (804) set tonight at Kirwan with his Invasion, in the process becoming the first to shoot 2 300 games in the centre.

    Buying Direct from the USA

It is in the pro shop owners best interest to be profitable. If competent drillers can't make a living in the industry, eventually there won't be any. As for saving 30%, you still have to get it drilled. If more balls start coming in from O/S, all that will happen is that the shops will...

    Buying Direct from the USA

Using your example, lets say a ball costs the shop here $200 and you can get it for the same price overseas. We pay GST on that $200. You don't. The proshop is selling it for $350. Take off the drilling cost, which for a thorough and competent job should cost you $50 plus. Say 50. That leaves...

Two Handed and One Handed Deliveries

Dinesh, The Nats are average based, but the scores do not count towards establishing an average. The rule specifically states you must bowl all deliveries the same way when establishing an average in league. I think FWIW that you can what you want in a scratch tournament, and a strict reading...

    Buying Direct from the USA

Ryan, that's simply not true. All balls are warrantied against manufacturer faults. Even if a ball is drilled outside specs (eg too narrow a bridge) if it fails due to other reasons (eg cracks somewhere other than the holes) it should be covered.

Two Handed and One Handed Deliveries

John, as long as you can demonstrate that you can use all of the gripping holes in a ball, it is legal whether you use any or all of them. The only restriction is on the orientation of the ball on the hand, it basically has to sit on the hand in the same direction as the grip is drilled.

Steve, you have to hear the whole sentence - people have been saying you quit lifting the ball. I cleared it up for you mate, I let them know you never started...:D
