    Ball Theory

That's a very good article Robbie, Nev won't find his answer there as it tells him to Experiment, which is what he will have to do. He is probably right about being over-spanned, as this I have seen over 36 years of Drilling, to be the norm in the industry, many times it is the Bowlers...

    What is it like?

Bigsy, the Lanes themselves are not a problem to Bowl on, you will only notice a different sound when the Ball hits the Lane. But if there are Synthetic Approaches also, than that's a whole other Story, these things are Knee destroyers. jmo willey

Which Bowler did you look up to when you started bowling?

I remember Bowling in a doubles league on a Saturday afternoon, at Fairfield, with Chris Batson and Gary Little (whatever happened to Gary, the 3 stepper), from memory in 1970 or 1971. Now that I have dated myself, my Idol was Jan Kozaki, I even bowled 5 step just like him, I even got to work...

What do people want to see

Porky, you have Highlighted a very important observation. When I was working for AMF Australia, they pulled all Advertising in the Local Papers, I believe to save costs. I don't think you can expect the Papers to run a Bowling Story if you don't Advertise in thier Paper! This I think started...

What the plastic ball championship has shown us

Geoff, I used a grippy Glove, similar to what Batson wore for a lot of years, I did try an assortment of different Gloves over the 30 plus years I Bowled. I never tried the Bradford support, he did have Wrist problems, probably brought about by his Angled Wrist support. willey

    Oiling Patterns...

There you go Phaggy, you answered your own Question! In Golf you have 14 Golf Clubs for all the Different Shots that you could be required to play. In Bowling you cannot take 14 Bowling Balls with you, for all the differing Conditions you may have to Play.

    AMF Game Rates?

Almost There, I don't know where you got your facts. AMF never started any Centre's in Australia, in the early years they ONLY LEASED the MACHINES at a cost of 5 cents (sixpence) per game. Brunswick did however start up some Centre's but they pulled the plug in the recession of 1966, about this...

    AMF Game Rates?

Robbie, they are good prices at your Centre but I haven't worked in an AMF Centre for 7 years and back then 2 games for a Family of 4 cost over $80, not including Food, even the Staff didn't buy the Food. willey

    AMF Game Rates?

I remember reading a quote in the Bowlers Journal, from one of the Bowling industry Big Wigs, it went like this "There is Nothing More Expensive in a Bowling Centre than an Empty Bowling Lane" No more needs to be said. willey

    AMF Game Rates?

Well done Cindy, keep up the good work, as an EX 36 year Bowling Centre Employee, I seen the price gouging AMF was doing over the years, one of the reasons I got out, I could see the Future and it wasn't pretty. willey

What effect does Methylated spirits have on coverstocks?

As Jason say's, lane oil is not that Oily, it is designed to evaporate over time, if it didn't your Ball wouldn't come out of the Ball Return because of the build-up of oil and I've seen that happen. willey

    I. T. Interchangeable Thumbs

Robbie, if you use a Good Quality Super Glue, like they sell in Bearing Distributors e.g; CBC Bearings, you will find you have a more secure product, you may pay $20 or more but the bottles hold a lot of glue. The stuff they sell in Supermarkets or Cheap shops is Crap, I know I own a Cheap Shop...

    Synthetic V/S Wood.

Bowlrig, they do Sue, and Win. I also know of Bowlers who have Sued and Won when the Approaches were in a Dangerous condition. As far as Synthetic Approaches are concerned, more time is spent working on them, some Centre's clean and Buff every day, they use concoctions from Isosicol to Caustic...

    Synthetic V/S Wood.

I'm with you Belly, I can't bowl on them either, even with Dexter's. Unfortunately here in Newcastle every Centre has them. One reason Amanda Little doesn't Bowl anymore. willey

    Synthetic V/S Wood.

Jim, to put it simply, it's angle of entry! It's not the Pins as some believe, just the angle the Ball can enter the Pocket. Why these Balls can do that is mostly the Footprint and Flare, to keep it simple. willey

    proshops in Sydney

Tonx, your telling him to go to Canberra, over 250 k's to see Jason, when Batson is at Fairfield about 20k's away? Nobody mentioned Cheryl Munson, is she still drilling? John Leo is he still drilling, he must be 100 by now. willey

    Moorabbin Tournament 1963

Androoooo, I worked in all those Centre's but 2, Kensington and Newcastle's Broadmeadow, as for the rest Hornsby is still open, Fairfield closed and has re-opened by an independent operator, same with Enfield. Sylvania was pulled down and re-opened in the Southgate shopping complex, I helped in...

    Can't let go !!!

As Roysa say's, the 3 things that will make you hang on for grim death; over-spanned, hole too large and too much reverse pitch. Find a reputable Ball Driller, I don't know who fitted your Ball, but from my experience there are a lot of lousy Drillers out there, and some have been doing it for...
