The Aussies dominated the 2004 AMF Bowling World Cup at SuperBowl SAFRA Mount Faber in Singapore on Day 1.

Ann-Maree Putney followed in the footsteps of fellow countryman Jason Belmonte and took the lead in the women's division.

The 1999 World Masters Champion posted games of 222, 235, 227, 202, 253 and 247 to lead the players from 74 countries with 1386 pinfall and an average of 231. Second was Shalin Zulkifli from Malaysia with 1341. Defending champion Kerrie Ryan-Ciach, Canada, led Squad B with 1310, good enough for third place.

Putney, whose scores ranged between 202 and 253, was pleased with her effort. “If 202 is my lowest game for the tournament, I’ll be happy; but there’s another 18 games to go [to make the cut]” she said afterward.
