Australian pair Natalie Shelley and Ann Maree Putney bowled Australia to a Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Championship in Scotland overnight.
Bowling in the womens doubles, Putney and Shelley combined for 2471, beating second placed England by 47 pins. Malta were third. The medal was Australias third medal and first gold of the championships, after Shelley and Jason Belmonte won Silver medals in Singles.
The Australian mens pairing of Belmonte and Andrew Frawley missed out on a medal, finishing in 6th place. They were only 23 pins away from 3rd place and a bronze medal. England won the gold, with Northern Ireland second and a tie for third with Canada and Brunei. Iqbal Damit, who is currently studying in Brisbane, was part of the bronze medal winning Brunei pair.
The Commonwealth Championships continue tonight, with the Mixed Doubles.
