Hi folks,
Instead of re-inventing the wheel, I thought I would bounce the idea of a league format off all of those 'experienced' bowlers out there, just in case this idea has been tried before without success..
('experienced' is a politically correct substitution for OLD)
THE IDEA is to keep full teams coming back week after week - unlike currently when a team (or individual) in a league is well off the pace 1/2 way through, they lose interest because they dont have a hope of taking home the winners trophy.
HOW DOES THIS SOUND.
90% of each weeks prize fund is paid out on a weekly basis.
Teams play for points each week - using a combination of winning points and peterson points.
Bonus points are added each week to the non-cashing teams as an incentive for the following week.
The other 10% of prize fund is saved for the final night and used for the end of league break-up (with small trophies for the top three teams and other awards as deemed suitable by the league).
In effect, I am talking about mini-tournaments from week to week.
An example of the 'adding points' is:
A league of 16 teams - the team who comes last this week gets a bonus of 10 points to take to the next week. The team who comes 15th gets 9 points, 14th gets 8 points etc... The top 6 teams do not get a bonus. Monies paid out means that the 1st place team gets their league money back plus a small bonus. 2nd place get their entry back and some free practice game vouchers. 3rd place get their money back, 4th get 1/2 entry back and some free game vouchers, 5th get 1/2 money back, 6th get some free game vouchers.
The points carry over from week to week (so if you come last 5 weeks in a row, you turn up to bowl on the 6th week witha 50 point bonus.).
All points are taken away once you win a week, and you are bought back to ZERO bonus.
Has anyone tried anything like this before - if so, how did it go?
If not, do you think the idea has merrit?
Look forward to your input.
