Carrydown query / theory

Hi all,

Just wondering, if most bowlers use the new fangled equipment that track flares, would this result in less carrydown.
Isn't the theory of track flare is that a new surface of the ball touches on each rotation. Therefore when the ball reaches the dry backend, it would be dry ball so very limited oil would carrydown, or does the dry ball still push the oil down, rather than carry it down????
Just wondering....

The balls still carry oil down. Have a look at a high-flaring ball - all of the tracks will cross over at two points, the bow-ties. With high flaring balls, carrydown tends to happen as oil spots rather than continuous strips, but with enough bowling the whole back end can still get oily, at least around the track area. What with spare balls not flaring, strike balls putting random splotches all over the back end, and the higher oil volumes used these days, backends can get.... interesting.
