Belmonte again in PBA Event

First off. Great Work Belmo. Well Done.

Ratty, I like the idea of a plastic ball event a lot!

Terry, I think that your argument holds water until you look at who made the final. All the players (Carter, Weber, Barnes & Fagan) all have good hand revs and great ball roll.

In the round of 8, same deal... Mike DeVaney,Chris Barnes, Pete Weber, Jack Jurek, Jeff Carter, Robert Smith, Brian Voss and Michael Fagan.

In the Round of 16, more guys with good hand and great ball roll.

So when we remove modern equipment, we see a notable absence of the guys who are more reliant on it for their roll and carry.

So I agree in so far as the lane conditions always dictate the scoring pace, but the type of player you are dictates whether you get a leg up from modern bowling balls. They are (and have been since urethane balls) performance enhancing compounds that offer much less advantage to players with BYO revs.

I'll also comment that a factor in the scores being high is that plastic balls don't burn up the heads and the players wouldn't have to move anywhere near as much.

Cheers,
Jason

I'd like to see a urethane tournament next season, Ebonite can do a batch of Black Turbos for that one!!

I know I am going to regret this comment but does this end the debate whether bowling balls account for high scores and does everyone know agree it's the lane conditions that effcet scoring more than the equipment.

Terry..

I really believe that it's a combination of the resin balls, synthetic lane surfaces and sophisticated oiling machines that have caused the scoring to raise to unrealistic levels.

High scores have always been possible, whether it was a rubber, plastic or urethane ball being used. In those cases, it was the lane man who ultimately decided whether or not the scoring level was high. in 1969, when still in the juniors I set a world record with 847 for three. I averaged over 220 in league play in quite a few seasons back when plastic was the main ball of choice, even finishing as high as 237 on a couple of occasions. Today, I still average 220+ in league play. Do you really think I'm the same bowler today that I was 30 years ago? Not a chance!

The difference in today's game is that there is little of the individual lane surface characteristics influencing the scoring. Using reactive resin bowling balls, the "pocket' becomes wider, the entry angle steeper, and as a result you now carry hits that used to be 8 or 9 countsd in years past.

Even though the scoring may have looked to be high..it still took just a 216 average to make it to match play.in this week's PBA plastic ball event there were exactly ZERO 300 games. This is a direct result of the type of ball being used.

i have said that all along, but at the end of the day, regardless, accuracy is king.wether u thrown it power, or fudge u can score either way if you are accurate!

HOUSE BALL TOURNAMENT.

SAVES ON FREIGHTING YOUR EQUIPMENT OVER.

any house ball??? i saw a sumo finger tip drilled at Maryborough a couple of weeks ago!!! bowled it once..... strike you can find some alright old balls on the racks

I've still got my old purple hammer urethane that l shoot spares with and every now and then when l'm bowling well (when l'm lined up in the ditch) l whip it out and shoot 220+. Never fails to piss off the right handers, conditions over type of ball l think has the biggest influence on scores.

Belmo fought back to finish 39th after the first 18 games (9 games on Cheetah, 9 games on Viper) in the PBA Etonic Marathon Open and made the first cut to 1/3 of the field (top 53 bowlers). Good luck for the next round and keep flying the Aussie flag proudly!

It must be something else to bowl on as many as 6 different patterns in the one tourney :) I'd love something that challenging.

I think it's cool how they're letting the top seed add a twist to the show by choosing the pattern they want laid down for the show as well. Arguably, it gives the best bowler throughout the week somewhat of a reward...but it could also go against them if they choose the wrong pattern. ANYTHING could happen!

Anyway, keep up the good work Belmo :)

Hooroo

Rowey :p

Not bad. I looked up the results block by block. On the Cheetah Belmo was 79th. On the viper he was the 23rd best. However on the Scorpian and Chameleon patterns, Belmo recorded the 4th best blocks. He is gaining steam going into the Shark and Earl Anthony Patterns tomorrow.
