:mad:Will these Losers please leave me your car number plates so I can return the favour.
Sick and tired of you so called bowlers taking your crap out on the ballreturns at Village give it a rest.

THANKS
Tim Discombe

Just hand them an invoice for any damage they cause, if they don't pay, report the matter to the local police as 'wilful damage'. Clear and simple, people need to be kept accountable for their actions.

......Including the person on the business end of the oiling machine, its a 2 way street.

What in heck is that suppose to mean
Honestly Bowlers they think they are the only ones that have a bad day
GEE I wonder if we make the shot easier they will respect our machinery DONT THINK SO!
Not in the 30 years of my experience now I should know not to post on these web sites but the front end casuals now days dont even hear the things being kicked because of the music in todays climate lets go back to the good old days 3 units of oil please.

While Im on I may as well keep going lets also go back to the day of Fulltime people running the centres and giving a hoot about the things that go on and know the bowlers well enough to enjoy a social time with instead of these giant companies with to much time on there hands employing people for the cost of an hourly rate and losing all the people who gave a damn and put there hands up all the time and in the end just couldnt cope any more these days are coming to an end .
Big Brother is dominating the tenpin side of bowling inflated prices,no atmosphere all red tape and politics, give us the money at that price bowl eat there junk market food and get the hell out before 11pm.
I remeber starting rear end of 1977 bowling doubles starting at 10.30pm then working counter on weekends finishing at 2 or 3 am and staying overnight playing pinball , work the next shift then go home at 4 pm and crash .

Those good old days have gone forever Im surprised they just dont have atm's taking the money and printing out the lane number .

Id better stop now Im getting teary, lol

Settle down tim, we all remember those days, even a ex mechanic of the 70's and 80's myself............

But as they keep reminding me you can't live in the past.............move on

After reading your posts tim...... you better stop sniffing the lane oil, the current brands arnt doing you justice......

I see you have a new manager, good man he is

Someone one who knows what this game is all about....

you have a nice day

cheers

Tony

The person doing the oiling, unfortunately, is generally the one stuck in the middle, laying the pattern his managers tell him to.

A pattern designed to score well and keep bowlers happy and coming back.

Pyro, I somewhat know how you feel. Lucky for me, it's only juniors who kick our ball returns, so they aren't too damaging. Those damn rubber marks are stupidly hard to get off, not to mention paintwork damage, & it some cases, broken hinges.

Its ok Tim, i know what its like to be the 'oil guy' with a target on his back. I shouldnt post on subjects like this when ive got the grumps up about something else.

Maybe you should give them the invoice for the damage caused on their shift. They would clean their ears out real quick.

If more people supported the small independent operators the large vultures would have to do more circling but this is the way everything is heading with the big getting bigger and the small getting squashed.

I would rather bowl at my local centre it might be a bit rough but at least they know my name.

Cheers Julie

Place notices stating that people causing willful damage to centre equipment will be reported to the police. Also include in the notice a you break it you pay for it clause which a person accepts automatically when they enter the bowling centre. You should in this case place it and any other premises entering conditions just outside and just inside all entrances and behind toilet doors.

You might want to install a video Camera pointing along the players area and state that video evidence supporting the charge will also be provided to the police. Consent for video footage is a condition of stepping within the players area. This will eliminate the need to rely on other people to police any equipment abuse culprits.

Implement a two strikes and your out rule policy for anyone found striking any fixtures within the centre with the punishment being a specified ban from entering the centre for a period of time. A subsequent offence could be a lifetime ban from entering the centre. I'm sure this will nip the problem in the bud very quickly. The condition of acceptance of this once again should be as soon as they enter the centre.

I'm pretty sure if clear conditions were set out as to what will happen to people caught abusing any fixtures or equipment within the bowling centre then I'm pretty sure the instances will dry up almost immediately.

As one of those people employed on a hourly basis whom, according to you doesnt give a hoot, i take offence to your comment!! I do give a damn about bowlers, i care about their experience and i would on any given day go out of my way do absolutely anything that they request.. i think that you will find that i am not the only one....

Actually as of this week really the way the majority play this sport ( honestly you would think there house was on the line ) I couldnt give a hoot about bowlers. Ballreturns still being kicked on a regular basis I think its time to change the house shot and give them real incentive to get upset we might take the frontends way of thinking and turn a blind eye ( as long as the bowlers happy though )
Waste of time telling anyone its time the bowlers looked after there centres and quick because things are changing for the worse.
PS
Sorry if Ive upset anyone who does there job in question.

Re: BACK ON KICKING OF BALL RETURNS

It's interesting to note that threads on kicking ball returns almost always become threads about lane conditions. That said, we have so many blocked lanes now "to keep the customer happy" (read ignorant of their technical flaws) that if the lanes are anything put pristine ditch, some of our "better" players get upset.

I agree with George. If there's damage, send an invoice. I've kicked a few returns over the years out of sheer frustration. (Nearly) always regretted it. Never damaged one beyond a scuff that rubbed off though. Many rubbed off by me with my bowling towel.

Big problem with sending invoices is to whom do we send them to? Us tech's down the back dont just sit around doing nothing all night, (Sorry to burst peoples ill informed perception of tech's, here at Village anyway). We dont always have the time to just stand and watch people bowl all night. So who does that leave to keep watch.........?
I dont disagree with the concept though and Jockey's idea has some merit to it, but its an idea that i have no doubt would have to get approved through some higher power than us down the back. I personally would get great enjoyment in hitting someone up with a 2nd strike and politely escorting them out the front doors, but i dont know how those higher powers would take that action.
Its just frustrating for us tech's to come up front to clean big scuffmarks off the ball return hoods and finding more damage to the fibreglass, (because thats all they are made of), mounting point. I personally have repaired 3 or 4 and need to redo a some again.
I completely understand how frustrating this game can be ive been bowling now for aprox 27yrs myself all we are asking is that sure you get p?%*sed off and frustrated we all do when we bowl but how about takinig responsiblity for you own actions and stop taking it out on our equipment. Especially when these generally are the first people to complain and whine when something breaks down or doesnt work properly.
We here are trying to do the best we can with what we've got to try and make sure everything works as its supposed to but there is only so much that we can do and fixing things like busted ballreturn hoods is taking us away from more important issues. Just a bit of restraint would be nice!

The staff at Village are a great team. With the exception of the weird scoring software and slow ball returns the centre's great. However the least enjoyable series I've ever played was one Thursday night recently when a member of the opposing team who was old enough to know better was having a bad night and took it out on the ball return casing after every bum shot.

And here we go again! Its finally happened some MORON last night spat the dummy kicked one of my Ball Return Hoods & busted the fibreglass where it bolts down to the approach. Seriously people learn to bowl & stop taking it out on my equipment!!!!
Now I realise the person responsible will probably never read this, but something had to be said & by making it known Im hoping word may get around before another hood gets broken.
I am hoping to bring into effect as of the new year a 1 warning system. I havent worked out all the details yet but it WILL be something like this.....
You kick/hit the ball return you get warned.
You kick/hit the ball return again you WILL be sent on your way.
I will not take excuses
I will & do not care about where you are in your game/s
This damaging of equipment IS going to stop!
