The 2012 Tenpin Bowling Junior National Championship is the platform for career highlights for many young bowlers from across Australia. The championship runs for a fortnight and has attracted hundreds of teenage and junior bowlers to Tenpin City in Sydney to pit their skills against their peers in a variety of singles, doubles and teams events.

The 2012 championship is also the catalyst for inspiring the sport’s emerging talent to follow in the footsteps of heroes including Commonwealth Games triple Gold-medallist Cara Honeychurch, and other Australian stars like World champions Ann Maree Putney and Michael Little, PBA Hall of Famer Carol Gianotti and megastar Jason Belmonte.

For 15 year-old Jarrod Langford from Ayr in North Queensland, the 2012 Junior National Championship is destined to be truly memorable. As top performer of the 2011 Boys All Star team, Jarrod represented fellow bowlers in reading the Sportspersons Oath at the opening ceremony of this year’s President’s Interstate Team Shield tournament, and then bowled a bonanza to retain the top boys’ All Star ranking following three days of intense competition in the interstate teams event. In doing so, he won every game in which he competed, and tournament organisers advise that although records are incomplete in certain statistics, they believe Jarrod’s 17 undefeated games from the 18-game format of President’s Shield is unequalled.

Fellow 15 year-old Maddy Kemp from Brisbane’s Murrumba Downs threw a tournament High Game of 267 in the Girls’ division to establish her supremacy as part of the South Queensland team’s back to back President’s Shield victories.

Joining Jarrod and Maddy on the All Star podium are young bowlers from all around the country – South Australian boys Michael Murray and Ryan Hall, South Queensland’s Jayden Leming and Sam Curry from Victoria in the Boys’ division, and Victoria’s Sarah Newman, South Australian Shona Forbes, North Queensland’s Katey Furze and Cherbeau Webb from New South Wales rounding off the Girls’ All Star team.

The junior All Stars will be acknowledged with other high achievers at the Presentation Dinner being held on Saturday night to celebrate the conclusion of the Junior Nationals. Meanwhile, bowling continues with the final rounds of the TBA Junior Masters, scheduled to commence at 9am on Saturday – the winners are expected to emerge from the gruelling elimination format by mid afternoon.
