Toowoomba will be buzzing with bowling action and the spirit of friendly competition this Long Weekend as players, officials and supporters gather to participate in the annual Tenpin Bowling State Championships of this popular sport. The action on the lanes at Toowoomba’s Sunset Superbowl will be live streamed to a national audience.

Over 500 entries have been registered in the Youth, Adult and Senior divisions from players all across Queensland competing for title honours and significant cash prizemoney. A bonus of two complimentary tickets in the exciting Back Roads Touring fund-raiser for the sport, offering a prize of a fabulous trip for two to one of its new destinations in Asia, is a further drawcard.

Championship organiser, Morty Douglass, is delighted with the response to this annual tournament which began with preliminary squads last weekend and will continue throughout the weekend, culminating with Masters finals in all four divisions – Youth, Restricted, Seniors and Open. “It’s the biggest-ever State Championships we’ve held, with almost 200 players and supporters descending on Toowoomba to take part,” Douglass said.

A light-hearted pro-am will kick off the weekend this Friday evening with teams from local corporates and media organisations vying to win the inaugural Terrific Toowoomba Tenpin Tournament. Each team will include a Championship participant who’ll share some tips on the skills needed to take out the TTT trophy.

Amongst the ‘pro’ recruits will be local teenagers Nicole Caldwell and Cameron Stein, who recently returned from stellar performances representing South Queensland at the TBA National Championships in Melbourne. 17 year-old Nicole Caldwell won Silver in the Australian Classic Cup at the Nationals and captained the South Queensland President’s Shield team, posting a tournament high score and personal best of 277 during the event. Cameron Stein was part of the victorious Boys’ team in the prestigious President’s Shield event and the 16 year-old scored a second Gold medal by winning the Australian Classic Cup at this year’s National Championships.

The TTT Tournament will get underway at 7pm on Friday night, and spectators are welcome to cheer on their favourite team. Spectators are also invited to Sunset Superbowl right across the weekend to witness some of the country’s best bowling talent on the lanes.
