Country Cup 2011 - Wodonga

I am not sure what Wodonga has planned for 2011 but I am fairly certain Rob and Lisa got some good ideas from the 2010 thread.

Lets see if we can come up with some ideas for Wodonga to help their Country Cup run as well as others have in the past.

Post suggestions etc below and we will get to the sledging later on as CC draws closer.

Personally, I thought the 2 areas for balls in Mildura was a good idea. Nowhere near as congested as in the past and it made changeovers a lot easier.

There have been a few talking points to come out of this years CCup

I think that the rivalary round has merit,
The legends and Hall of Fame fingers crossed will be in next year
Monday night dinner/catch up was a blast

Whilst on that subject Here is my proposal and this can happen every year regardless of where it is held
Current Format is
Saturday 4-4-3-3 total of 4 blocks men and women alternating
Sunday 4-4-3-3 total of 4 blocks men and women alternating
Monday 4-4 total of 2 blocks men and women alternating.

Understanding the distance that some people had to travel to Mildura then alot of people choose to stay the Monday night (and not everyone has the luxury of getting all the time off work) and this enabled Sunraysia to organise a dinner on the monday for those that stayed. TO those that travelled home you did miss out on a great night.

My proposal is that we can have a dinner every year on the Sunday night which everyone can attend and if people are still staying the Monday night we can do it all again

For this proposal to work the games would be
Saturday 4-4-4-4 total of 4 blocks men and women alternating (adds approx 2 hours to current time due to 2 extra games)
Sunday 5-5 total of 2 blocks men and women alternating (allowing 1 hour per game and 1 hour changeover total 11 hours) if we were to start at 7:30am everyone would be finished by 6:30am and the dinner could start at 7:30pm
Sunday 5-5 total of 2 blocks men and women alternating (adds approx 2 hours to current time due to 2 extra games) and does make it later for those that do travel home on the monday

Morwell and Geelong do have a dinner on the Sunday night as they have enough lanes for mens and ladies teams to bowl together and they have been quite successful in the past. If it does go ahead then these dinners would be the perfect opportunity for the presentation of the Hall of Fame and Legends each year.

Its funny when you talk to people away from the bowl - I had a brother that I never knew about and a person that will remain nameless but has been around for 30 years thought that Jason and Jodie Motta were husband and wife (for the record they are not by the way they are brother and sister)

Guess thats suppose to be 6:30pm, not am. And that we still bowling Monday as well? Not 2 sundays??

There is always one - you Bendigo blokes are all the same;)
the same - what do you mean ...... observant

I would probably like to tackle one thing at a time and talk about the rivalry round. Very good idea and would be great in principle. I see a couple of things that would need to be addressed first though

Which round it falls is very important. I don't think it should be the last round because it could effect the teams trying to win if you play the same team every year in the last game. eg if you have to play Shepparton in the last game as opposed to Wodonga (i picked those teams because they finished first and last in this years mens event.) You could argue it would be an advantage to play a weaker team over an stronger team in the last game (you could also make an argument that you would fire up etc if you were playing a stronger team). My point is i don't think it should be the final round

I also think it needs to be considered where you play the two games as far as early in blocks or late in blocks. Some teams play better on fresh oil some are better when the lanes have broken down. If would be unfair to have both rounds on fresh oil or both rounds on lanes that have broken down. Probably the best rounds would be Game 5 -- fresh oil first time around and then Game 14 last game of the block (unless the current schedule changes)

Finally - how do you work out rivalries. Some rivalries that exist in the men may be different in the women. I think the suggestions were

Albury / Wodonga vs Wodonga
Shepparton vs Sunraysia
Colac vs Warrnambool
Geelong vs Latrobe Valley
Ballarat vs Bendigo

Geographically it is a pretty good starting point and probably the best all round idea - though i know from Colac men point of view that Geelong Men have traditionally been our biggest rival

I agree with you on both counts Gary rivalry round needs to be in the middle of the tournament somewhere - not in rounds 9 and 18 - under my propsed revised schedule it is a near on impossible to get one on fresh oil and one on lanes that have broken down following the same order ie (1-9 then repeat order for 10-18) another way to do it and create some interest is say (using my proposed schedule) is game 8 last game on the Saturday and the other game 14 first round on the Monday - lane draw may be an issue but should be able to overcome.

PS fixed the rivalries (for the men that is)

That is just plain mean Woza!

You are lucky that i will probably not remember what was said tomorrow.

PS - Bob Smith is older than three of our bowlers combined!

It was pretty mean just trying to beef up the rivalry ;)
but the combined age of the rest of the Warrnambool team is most probably younger than some of your bowlers;)

quick post - on the rivalry round idea, I have drafted a letter, sent it to one person for thoughts - got some valid feedback, mostly positive, should I email the initial draft to the people I intended to or post it for public comment (its 2 full pages by the way).

And I would ask all to remember, not everyone does actually read TB, also, at this stage I have no prospect to play in CCup again so some might say naff off, you have no say. I do however love the event and think any idea to make it better is worth discussing.

The letter I have drafted does not take into account Woza's idea, I can re-draft to take that in. The lane draw is an issue if the two rounds are not in sequence - makes the lane draw a manual event, can be messy.
