Belmo is sitting 5th in Euro-Med Storm Masters final

Aaron Kong powered his way into the lead in the first round of the finals in the 5th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge finals at Pearl Bowling Center in Parañaque City, Philippines.

The Malaysian national team member had games of 246, 214, 247, 269, 259, 257, 212 and 237 for a 1941 eight-game total and an average of 242.63. Hong Kong’s Cyrus Cheung rolled a 289 in the eighth game to jump into second place with 1935, just six pins behind Kong, Another six pins behind Cheung was Korean professional Kim Byeong Hak in third place with 1929.

48 finalists from the qualifying bowled eight games with the top 24 bowlers advancing to the second stage on Sunday morning. Philippine legend Paeng Nepomuceno led the field after seven games but fell to fourth with 1923 behind a 216 final game.

Jason Belmonte, the two-handed star from down-under was fifth with 1899. Malaysian Shalin Zulkifli was the best of five women, who made the cut, in sixth position with 1895 including handicap (8 pins per game).

The 24th and final spot belonged to her fellow countryman, Zulmazran Zulkifli who checked in with 177 or an average of 222.13. The second stage of the finals will start at 10am on Sunday morning at Pearl Bowling Center.

The 24 players represent nine countries, Malaysia and Korea (5 each), Philippines and Singapore (3 each), United States, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong (2 each), Australia and Thailand (1 each).

There are 19 men and five women in the finals - 17 right-handers, four lefties and three spinners.

Those 24 will bowl another eight games starting from scratch. The top eight bowlers will then bowl seven games round robin to cut to the top three for the stepladder finals.

Belmo is now 2nd with the Step ladder to go.

During Stage 2 ( top 24) belmo started slowly for the first 2 games then shot an amazing 1123 for the next 4 ( 279, 265, 300, 279 ).
