WITH The Southern Highlands officially becoming a Special Olympics region next year, the athletes have proven they will be tough competition with some excellent results in recent bowling competitions

On November 17, they competed in the Tuggeranong ACT State Tournament.

Paul Hreszczuk won first place in both singles and doubles, as did Jenna Webb and Michael Forbes.

Patrick Williamson took out first in the doubles and a participation in singles with Scott Bodycott winning a first in doubles and third in singles.

Aiden Ellis also won doubles and finished second in singles and Liam Dredge took out third spot in both singles and doubles.

David Gray came third in doubles and a participation in singles with new athlete Cherrie Isbister earning a participation ribbon in both singles and doubles.

They then backed up with some excellent results at the Highlands Ten Pin Disability Social Tournament on Sunday.

Brendan Kane got first in singles and doubles and Cherrie Isbister picked up a first in doubles and second in singles.

Michael Forbes also picked up a first in doubles and second in singles while Kelsie Waters got first in both the female division and doubles.

David Gray finished with a second in doubles and fourth in singles, Liam Dredge got a second in doubles and third in singles and Patrick Williamson got second in doubles and fourth in singles.

Scott Bodycott got second in both singles and doubles.

Diane McAusland from Highlands Ten Pin said it was a very successful day with the athletes looking forward to their Christmas party at Macarthur on December 16.

The Southern Highlands will become an official Special Olympics region as of next year and McAusland everyone involved was very excited.

SOUTHERN Highlands Special Olympics ten-pin bowlers have enjoyed success recently at the State Games held in Nowra and competitions at Orange and Canberra.
Aidan Ellis finished with a first and fourth, while Will Clarke brought home a first and third medal from Canberra.
Brendan Kane won a bronze medal at Nowra and also won a first and fourth at the competition held in Bateau Bay.
In Canberra, Scott Bodycott came first in pairs and third in the singles competition and Patrick Williamson achieved the same results.
At Nowra, Kelsie Waters achieved a first and third place.
In his first competition at Canberra, Callum Lowe cam home with two gold medals in the pairs and singles competitions.
Cherie Ibister got a gold and bronze medal at Canberra while Paul Hreszczuk came second in pairs and singles.

At Bateau Bay, Liam Dredge finished second in doubles and sixth in singles.
David Gray got a first and third at Nowra, second and third at Bateau Bay and two seconds in Canberra.
With the Southern Highlands now officially a Special Olympics region, a range of sports are available to interested athletes in the area with numbers constantly growing.
