After a moment of thinking, he added: "At least Pluto the dog doesn't have to compete with the planet anymore," referring to the Disney cartoon character named after the planet.
Walt Disney Co spokesman Donn Walker said "Pluto is taking this news in stride, and we have no reason to believe he might bite an astronomer."

Good point. Haha.

Why don't they just leave everything as it is and call Pluto a planet? Shows that these guys have too much time on their hands...

Our daughter (year 2) is learning about space at school and was devistated to hear that Pluto is no longer a planet. She knows all the planets in their order and said she is still going to say Pluto because she feels sorry for Pluto.

She has a space talk to do next week and was doing it on earth and has now decided to do it on Pluto.

That opens up another can of worms...

How are the students going to keep up to date with the changes(year 2 students have enough on their plate learning to read and write let alone keeping up with astronomy)?

Absolutely, not to mention that it is confusing for children of a young age.

We recently took the children to the planetarium at Mt Cootha and there was a large portion of the show dedicated to Pluto they are going to have to re-do their presentation, ot to mention the pictures etc on the walls. Imagine the cost associated with reprinting text books and reference materials etc.

Xena is bigger than Pluto, should have added it and made it 10. The count as as our astronomy buddies see it now is 8 planets and 5 'dwarf planets'
