It is my view that Patrick Smith is very likely the best sports writer in the country. He writes for The Australian, not daily but often enough. He is not someone who is always easy to agree with - very often he is just plain annoying - nevertheless he must be read. Today [Saturday] his column [you can read it on The Australian web site you don't have to buy the paper] has a very strong message - for many sports - and although not mentioned by name there is a very sizable message to be had for the sport of bowling. It's not good news - it is however insightful.
