Macquarie Bank-owned AMF Bowling has opened the doors to Australia's largest bowling centre - a $6 million leisure park with 38 glow-in-the dark lanes and pumping nightclub music.

Macquarie Leisure Trust Group paid $67 million for AMF's 40 bowling centres in 2004 and is now opening the new-look centres around Sydney in a bid to spark a new generation of interest in the tenpin sport.

The North Strathfield centre opened this week with a fully licensed Sliders bar, lounge area and big-screen projectors, with target markets ranging from children's parties to office team-building classes.

AMF regional manager Andrew Sharry said the centre provided a "fresh entertainment alternative" for Sydney.

AMF's Hornsby Bowl reopened earlier this year after a $1.5 million refurbishment.

The centres also have laser lights and smoke machines.

Mr Sharry was previously Macquarie Leisure business development manager, involved in developing the $60 million Gold Coast theme park White Water World.

AMF has also refurbished its Blacktown, Macarthur and Castle Hill Bowling centres

they were out recruiting hard for bowlers too.
When i was in sydney 2 weeks ago they had a stall at westfield parramatta and were stopping people telling them about when the centre was opening.

38 lanes sounds good, would always be pretty easy to get a lane to practise on.
