Jason Walsh wins the Perth Cup in a 10th frame nail biter!

Hypercell = Hyperhook!
What can only be called as a spectators dream, the 2004 Perth Cup came down to the 10th frame between Jason Walsh and Jason Belmonte. Both Jasons were playing each other in the last game. Belmonte taking into the game a 80 plus lead after leading the tournament for most of the day.

Both players started with the front 4 strikes and it seemed certain that Belmonte would hold on for the win but a string of 10 pins stopped his quest. Walsh kept striking up to the 6th. It came down to the 10th frame, Belmo only needing a spare to clinch the title left an messy 3,4,6,7 split which he failed to convert. Walsh now needing a double in the 10th tripped a 4 pin late in the 11th to secure the win. It was an amazing match, the huge crowd on hand showing their appreciation with loud cheers.

George Frilingos held on to 3rd after a late charge from Paul Trotter, Andrew Frawley came in 5th and Andrew McArthur (last years winner) finishing a credible 6th.

Walsh surprised by his win congratulated Belmo in this victory speech, stating that he in fact bowled the better of the 2 over the course of the 3 days.

Thanks you to Sue and Pam from Fairlanes bowl who put on a great event (as per usual). Thank you to Ian Nichol who kept he country updated with live scores through out the weekend.

How i saw the weekend!!!!!!!

Firstly i think the staff should get a huge congratulations....never have i felt so at home at a tournament, everyone there should take a bow and i hope more bowling centres take note and can copy Fairlanes freindly staff.

Sencondly the crowd......The 2 years i have gone there the stands have been jammed packed and people everywhere clapping, cheering and playing a huge role in the excitment of a tournament. Never in Asutralia have i experianced just a vocal and supportive crowd and i can tell you its something that makes a bowler step up and perform.

Thirdly to the Muirs......Each year they open their home to a bunch of people and make them feel that their home is your home. You guys are wonderful people and i speak for the 4 of us that stayed there, we appreciate it and love you guys to the moon and back!

and i guess lastly to my really good mate Jason Walsh.
He proved on the weekend that a tournament isnt over till the last ball, he showed how a champion bowls by never giving up. And he taught me to never count my chickens before they hatch :)
Congrats again mate and i know ill be seeing you in the final many more times down the road.

I would have to say this tournament recieves 9/10 on the Belmo kickarse tournament scale (lost a point cause i lost haha)

My Advice......Be sure to have saved enough for this tournament, its one ill never forget and i hope many more people can experiance Perth's wonderful nature. The tournament has such a rich history and it would be ashame to those that never become apart of it.

Yours in bowling

Jason Belmonte

:D :D

Jason & George what can I say. It was a pleasure to host "the Cup" this year and we certainly witnessed some wonderful bowling and sportsmanship.

Jason Walsh was an extremely worthy Winner and Belmo so gracious in defeat...............You certainly turned on a spectacle for us.

Great to get your comments on the team at Fairlanes....I was very proud of them too...

George you keep that "trophy" polished and Jason I believe I might see you in Vegas.

See you next year

Sue

The Perth Cup is the friendly tournament. Since I started going to Perth in 1994 I have rated the Perth Cup as the best. As Belmo stated the stands are always full on final day.

This year as a non-bowler, Sue and staff made me very welcome and I thank them for their generous hospitality. I manage to survive a couple of late nights at Langley’s.

The “after party” at Novotel Langley Hotel - Fenians Pub completed the weekend. http://www.tenpin.org.au/2004_Perth_Cup/afterparty.htm

My suggestion to bowlers, put this tournament as a must event next year and remember to book your flights to Perth early.

2004 perth cup

I reckon this years Perth Cup would have to go down as one of the best. I still rate '94 as my fav when me ol' mate Scoops got up but this year , I dunno, everything just seemed to "go off" well except for the weather on Friday again!! They tell me it as pretty wet. As my whipping boy Belmo pointed out Sue and co really put on a show this year and I dont think I would have made it through to Monday without their encouragement and support. Meanwhile down on the lanes it was my old sparring partner MM who helped me "sack up" (where did this start) when I was really struggling and I couldnt have made it without his help. Thanks mate. So on to Monday and some great bowling after a somewhat quiet start really kept the great crowd entertained and you can sense it down on the lanes. In the end it got down to the last game and for 2 years running a first timer gets the trophy. Amazing. Then after formalities up to Fenians to reflect on the weekend and to ponder what could have been and a few quiet brewskies and of course Darryl with his race call and take on the weekend. Hilarious as always especially when he lost that page.

All in all another great weekend and even though I'm absolutely shagged I guess I'll have to sack up (there it is again) next year.
Cant wait

Baron

My only dissappoinment of the weekend I didnt record Darryl with his race call , next year it will be on the Web.

What a great weekend

Brunswick Perth Ten Pin Cup 2004

Have to agree, a wonderful tourament once again......
( My personal thanks to both Sue and Pam for their encourgement and thoughts this weekend - You know it meant alot to me ! )

Not only did it come down to the last frame for the title.....but having Iann's amazing scoring system there, we knew that Baron had to bag out the thenth of the last game to make the cut..... Excitement Plus!!!

With continued support from Brunswick and other sposnors such as CXI and Tony from Unique concrete... this tournament can only continue to rank as one of the best tournaments in Australia......

And as for George's Trophy..... Im sure this is a one of a kind award for bowling..... I was unable to make it Back to Back Titles...even with some working out hehehehe......although Im not sure how George won it in those pants!!!! Im sure the bribing clinched it for him
I will let George fill you in on the details :)

Once again Congratulations to Sue and her team at Fairlanes on another great Perth Cup..... Looking forward to bigger and better Cups in the future :)
