I've just looked up the BOM website and see there is a warning for Tropical Cyclone Hamish, which has intensified to a category 5 with windgusts up to 295 km/hr near the centre which would exceed the destructive winds of Cyclone Larry. It is currently 275km East/NE of Townsville and heading southeast at 17 km/hr, tracking down the coast as it intensifies and the Bureau warn it could cross the coast anywhere from Mackay south.

I'm sure warnings have been communicated by now up there but hope you guys are all prepared if it crosses the coast - hope it stays away.

Thanks Tim, we are all good at the moment, there is not much wind or rain around at the moment but we are prepared and there are heaps of warnings on TV and the radio.
Thanks

Moderate to gusty wind and rain 20 km south of mackay.

Heavy rain in Mackay. Solme areas/mainly roads in Mackay underwater (believe near creeks and dams, storm water drains) Andergrove one of the suburbs has water over roads in areas (what has been said on the radio)

All flights have been cancelled in and out of mackay. (That'sprob not news though)

Some train operations (specifically coal) have come to a hult with the ports being closed and all trains stowed very securely.
