Australia’s Jason Belmonte and Jarrod Lean stormed home last night in the final squad of the Doubles event to overtake their team-mates Jason Walsh and Brandon Qualischefski for the Bronze medal in the first event of the WORLD MEN’S TENPIN BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP in Busan.
A superb 1,541 series and 256.8 average by 23 year-old Orange bowler, Jason Belmonte, earned him the unqualified ‘man of the match’ title, despite the high bar previously set by Sweden’s Martin Larsen who posted a 243.2 average on his way to the Gold with doubles partner, Robert Andersson. Belmonte's 298 and near-perfect 289 in the fifth and sixth games has secured him the lead in the All-Events tally going into today's Trios event.
The England duo of Daniel Stride and Mike Quarry won Silver, finishing just 23 pins behind the Swedish pair, while Kang Hee-Won and Choi Bok-Eum from host country Korea finished in fifth position.
