What is AMF doing to the game?

Surprised it hasn't got a mention here but the mail is that AMF Bowling (the name) will be completely gone from Australia as of 1st May 2018 after more than fifty years. Ardent Leisure's recent sale of AMF Bowling to Timezone and Timezone's refusal to pay for the rights to continue use of the...

What is AMF doing to the game?

Ardent Leisure seem very happy to rake in the coin by charging high prices for everything and offering somewhat stingy "specials" and are always woefully understaffed but won't spend a cent on upkeep of their AMF Bowling Centres. Exactly like their pathetic lack of maintenance at Dream World...

    oldest leagues

Sponsors League at AMF Moonah in Hobart started in 1963 and is still running 52 years later. It was a 24x5 player league for many years throughout the 1970s and 1980s and fell to 16x5 by 1999 when AMF management decided to scrap the 5-player team concept and cut it back to 4-player teams in...

Why is everyone so depressingly agreeable?

Social Media Policy is pretty much what stifled/killed debate on anything to do with bowling. The good ol' corporate driven mentality of banning criticism and debate, threatening and bullying those who do so with punitive measures. Standard corporate ideals. "Everything is peachy". PS: Jim, I...

Danny Corbett and Adam Johnson latest 300 shooters at Moonah.

Congratulations go out to veteran Tasmanian champion player, Danny Corbett who registered his maiden 300 game in Centre League at AMF Moonah on March 6th. Corbett, a veteran of numerous Rachuigs for the State and a number of other titles victories rolled his first perfect game after 42 years in...

    Highest league average in Australia

To the original poster, the highest at AMF Moonah is Norm Green on 228 in Centre League. That is on course to break the all-time record which was a 227 average for a season set by Paul Lucock in Centre League about 4-5 years ago.

    294, not easy to do

I can recall reading somewhere that it was Kent Wagner, former husband of top woman pro, Lisa Wagner that had rolled the full set (290-300). Also too, a certain founder of Totalbowling shot a 294 once, I believe. Greek Church with the three pin on the front eleven.

    Hobart masters

Congratulations Tiny and Sairz on your wins. Matt, I almost had ya! I was hellbent on breaking an 18 year drought at that tournament and was trying like buggery to get the job done, I think I peaked to soon and you bowled sensationally well to win that title. Very well done indeed. How many...

    AMF Australian Masters overview

Personally I would say yes, Doreen, they should be as it will lift the standard of our own players as they'll see exactly what it takes to get to the top. I also believe we have some fine players in this country that are more than capable of beating the Internationals and we'll see an...

    old bowling alleys

Burnie Bowl up on the North West coast of Tasmania is another defunct centre. Looked straight out of the early 1970s for years even though it was built in the mid 80's with it's dark, dingey interior and early 70's style carpets and wooden counters. It had wooden lanes and Odin machines and...

    AMF Australian Masters overview

I remember walking into that Novotel/RSL last year with another bowler to get a meal wearing jeans and bowling shirt and was refused entry no less on one particular afternoon by some clipboard Nazi on the front door despite having a guest's sign in pass! I actually found them to be quite rude...

What is your Highest Game with a Plastic Ball only?

Highest game with a plastic was in the high 260's when I was 14 (I got lucky). Shot higher with a rubber houseball at a school PE trip to Mornington in Year 10 (it was a complete fluke) and when I used to work at Moonah I shot 741/3 with a 10lb conventional grip houseball and house shoes, that...

    Best leave ever?

At Devonport in the State Masters about a month or so back, I went through the beak and left a 2-3-6-7 with a Nano. That was the second time I've spliced the 2-3 in Devonport in the last 15 years, although with this one I did slightly move the 2-pin to the left. In league a couple of Sunday...

Quite simple, which is simply the greatest?

My three all time favourites were: Ebonite Magnum 10 - Can remember banking that off the half-board at Moonah and getting it back to the pocket about 18 years ago *cue "Glory Days"*. Had two of them, shot 300's with both. Ebonite Nitro R2 - Most versatile ball I've ever used, to this day...

game to game Best to worst

Just remembered an even stranger one. 152-269-279-278 back in 2004 on the old wooden lanes at Moonah. Was throwing a brand new Hammer Diesel at the time, never hit the pocket at all in the first game and about two frames into the next, then never missed it again.

    2011 Rachuig & Restricted Trials

I believe it has something to do with him bowling in a Seniors event which is in reasonably close proximity timewise to Rachuig and was cost prohibitive to do both. He'll be able to fill you in on the details on here.

    Chris Commane 300/805

Great come from behind win for Chris there. An absolute machine in the last four games to get up and run away from Tiny Dickson to take the title. A somewhat happier ending to the day for Chris than it was 24 hours earlier... LOL ;)

My bowling ball is NOT cheap

I'd reckon you'll be struggling to offload it at that price Matthew. As other have said, once drilled and used, they depreciate in price pretty quickly, not much you can do about that. Being that it's a 13lb ball, there's not a great deal of call for that low a weight, so you might wanna look...

    What are your other hobbies

Yeah they provided some great moments of standing around the truck of a night, drinking cans and intercepting people talking on cordless phones. Some of the convo's you used to hear were obscene! :D I'd never use a cordless phone anyway, I'd be too busy thinking there'd be a truckload of young...
